Dear Sir, Indian nuke policy is no more Pakistan specific. India had a nuke since 1974. In the recent years, basically we have been increasing the range of our weapon dilivary systems like IRBMs & developing 2nd strike capabilities. We do not need 3500/5500 km ‘Agni’s for Pakistan. We never intended, thought of or thretened to use Nukes against any country. We have a delared ‘no first use’ policy. Our adverseries keep claiming our territories. We already had wars with China & Pakistan. That is why we need Nukes as a detterent. We are aspirants, and rightly so, to be a ’super-power in the making’ in the new multi-polar world order that is coming up. We compete with China & not Pakistan. We afford Nukes better than Pakistan for the obvious economical, technological & geo-political reasons. Pakistan did not make nukes in 5 days in 1998. Pakistan nuke policy is India specific. Surely they do not need it on their NWFP/Afganistan or Iran. Lastly, You can not just blame your rulers for boasting about your nukes. They would always say things that the public would like. We & you, are the same race. Some have embaraceed Islam & some have not. Your goal of Nuke free south-east Asia, would come true, only with change in the mind-sets of Indian & Pakistani public. If Berlin wall can vanish why can not our fence on LOC?
